We are currently pulled off on the side of the road in South Carolina (along with a bunch of other people) because it is raining so hard that it’s what you would call a ‘white out’ if it were snowing. The wind seems to be gusting up to 50mph and the rain is blowing almost sideways. We’ll drive for a little ways then pull off again. Now because of all this hard rain we are discovering new leaks in the bus. Thankfully, Joe fixed the majority of them otherwise there would be water all over the floor of our bus.
We have to keep at least one window open when it’s raining because the exhaust smell will get too bad. It’s usually this window and I have to put up a towel to keep the rain off of the stuff on the shelves.
So we left Florida Sunday and stayed at Jekyll Island campground in Georgia, where there were egg-shaped golf carts all over the island and deer eating grass in people’s front yards. It was nice as always to be able to hook up to electric and run our air conditioner – our new air conditioner since the old one finally died. The next morning we stopped at the beach there and Joe and Jadyn played in the ocean while I cleaned and organized the bus. It seems I’m always doing that. :)

The drive through South Carolina was hot, but uneventful. We drove on to Lumberton North Carolina where we stayed at the Sleepy Bear RV campground. The brochure showed a picture of a clown with some kids, but when we got there it was pretty dead. It was a kid friendly place so there were pictures of happy bears and stuff, but because of the clown image in my head and lack of people there, it made me think of something out of a Steven King book.
Up I-95 through South Carolina are countless billboards advertising a place called Pedros. When we drove by though, it looked like a ghost town with lots of places that looked shut down. The water tower or observatory (or whatever it was) looked cool though. And in North Carolina we passed a town called Micro – must be a little town. :o)
So now we are driving through North Carolina, in the rain, and we are singing “The Grateful” song, in which we take turns singing what we’re grateful for. Next stop…..a wonderful campground in Virginia. :o)
